Lopez makes Scotland pay the penalty in a scrappy win

The visitors did manage to score the only try of the game, however.

FRANCE OPENED THEIR Six Nations campaign with a 15-8 victory over Scotland in Paris this evening.

Five penalties from fly-half Camille Lopez proved the difference for France who will take on defending champions Ireland next Saturday in Dublin.

With the hosts 9-3 ahead approaching half time, replacement Dougie Fife was able to cross the whitewash for the visitors after his team-mates created an overlap out right.

Greig Laidlaw was unable to convert the extras though and so the French took a one point lead into the break, 9-8.

While both teams flattered to deceive in the second half, it was the hosts who looked the more threatening.

However, having failed to cross the try-line, they had to settle for two further Lopez penalties to eke out a seven-point win.

Scotland’s long wait for a win in Paris – now standing at 16 years – continues.
